INNOVATION: Africa50 and Electricidade de Moçambique to develop the first floating solar plant in #Mozambique and transmission line PPP projects. The MoU was signed at the COP28 climate conference in the UAE. “Mozambique has tremendous renewable energy potential and Africa50 is pleased to partner with the country to help turn it into concrete and impactful power projects, including pioneering floating solar technology,” said Alain Ebobissé, CEO of Africa50.Īfrica50 said it expects to develop these projects under the UAE's US$4.5 billion Africa Green Investment initiative in which Africa50 is a strategic partner. The lines will form part of a green corridor enabling the evacuation of green power to consumption centres. ![]() In addition to these generation projects, Africa50 and EDM have signed an MoU for developing transmission line public-private partnership projects, beginning with 400km of high voltage lines. The latter would be built on the surface of the Chicamba hydropower plant reservoir. The projects include the 100MW Montepuez solar farm in Cabo Delgado province, the 60MW Angoche solar plant in Nampula province, which will feature a battery energy storage system, and the 100MW floating solar photovoltaic project in the western province of Manica. Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with pan-African infrastructure investment platform Africa50 to collaborate on the development of solar energy projects and transmission lines in Mozambique.
